The Musica Viva: Florence Festival invites proposals for its International Mini-Conference, Music in the Galant Style and Beyond – A Modern Renaissance, which will take place from August 20 to 22, 2025, at Villa La Stella, Florence. The program committee welcomes proposals for individual papers, lecture-recitals, seminar panels, and other presentation formats related to the study and performance of Galant music, historical performance practice, and interdisciplinary approaches bridging early music with modern composition, improvisation, and technology.

Following the conference, participants will have the opportunity to attend festival performances featuring internationally renowned artists.

Proposal Submission Guidelines

To widen participation as much as possible, only one proposal of each type is permitted per applicant. Proposals should be sent here and should include two separate PDF documents:

• The abstract(s). This file should be anonymized.
• Speaker biographical notes (max. 150 words for each speaker) including current affiliation, and any special requirements.

We encourage submissions in a variety of scholarly and performance-oriented formats. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Individual Papers
   • 20-minute presentation followed by a 10-minute discussion.
2. Lecture-Recitals
   • 30-minute presentation, integrating performance and research.
3. Seminar Panels
   • Written papers will be distributed ahead of the conference, with the session focusing on extended discussion.
4. Workshops and Roundtables
   • Interactive sessions or discussions, structured within an 80-minute time slot.
5. Other Formats (e.g., media presentations, experimental sessions)
   • Please specify session format, musicological significance, and participant roles in the abstract.

All proposals will be evaluated through a blind peer-review process, ensuring an equitable selection procedure.
